In celebration of Wool Month 2021, The Campaign for Wool Canada partnered with renowned Canadian artist T.M. Glass to produce a very special piece of art featuring Canadian sheep at their centre. The work is printed with archival pigments on a rare wool paper imported from Italy and comes professionally framed.
Only 10 of each size will ever be produced and the pieces are numbered and signed by the artist.
The story of the piece begins with the visit of a group of Shetland sheep to the artist's garden.
The sheep came from North America's original Shetland flock who were imported to Canada by the current Shepherdess' father-in-law. The artist photographed the visiting sheep and then went to work transforming the image in her Toronto studio.
Glass' describes her process below:
"All of my pictures are created in my own studio using a computer with hardware input from a large format high resolution camera and a digital painting tablet that allows onscreen painting. Several kinds of software allow the creation of the imagery and export of pictures to a high resolution, six foot digital printer. The finished works are limited editions of archival pigment prints on hand made archival rag paper.
I see digital software and hardware as the latest new tools for artists. I fully embrace the technology and use these digital tools in my work for mixing colours, collaging bits and pieces of images, hand painting with digital paint, adding and subtracting. In other words, doing whatever I might do if I were using physical paint with the difference being that digital allows greater complexity and far more options and creative opportunities."
Glass has generously donated the pieces to the Canadian Wool Council (CWC) and 100% of the profits will be donated to them on the buyer's behalf. The CWC is a Canadian non-profit organization devoted to supporting Canada's wool growers and educating consumers on the wonders of wool.
